Do you know what is a server in the computing world?

Server

A server is a piece of computer hardware or software (computer program) that provides functionality to other systems or computers known as “clients” in the computing world. The client-server model is the name for this architecture. Servers may perform a variety of functions, commonly referred to as “services,” such as sharing data or resources among multiple clients or performing computation on behalf of a client.

Many clients can be served by a single server, and a single client can access multiple servers. A client process can run on the same device or link to a server on a different device through a network. Database servers, file servers, mail servers, print servers, web servers, game servers, and application servers are examples of popular servers.

The request-response model is the most commonly used (and sometimes associated with) client-server systems today: a client sends a request to the server, which performs some action and returns a response to the client, usually with a result or acknowledgment.

The term “server-class hardware” refers to a device that is optimized for operating servers. Large computing clusters can be made up of several relatively simple, replaceable server parts, implying that they are more efficient and reliable than regular personal computers.
